What Does FireMed Have To Do With My Insurance?

Through your FireMed membership you authorize FireMed to bill your insurance whenever you or a household member uses an ambulance. Insurance can cover little or nothing, with an overall range of 50-80% coverage. Medicare and private insurance usually leave various parts of the bill unpaid. FireMed picks up all costs not covered by your insurance and the whole cost if you have no insurance.

Why Does FireMed Bill My Insurance?

Billing the insurance of those who use ambulance service helps keep your membership fee affordable. The cost of operating ambulance service on behalf of members is far greater than the membership fees received.

Do I have Insurance Papers to fill Out?

Not normally. FireMed staff does the work for you. Your membership authorizes us to bill your insurance.

What if My Insurance Doesn't Cover All of the Ambulance Bill?

FireMed pays the rest! There are no hidden costs. You are covered anywhere we have reciprocal agreements with ambulance providers in Oregon.

Can I Drop My Regular Insurance Because I Have FireMed?

No. FireMed covers only ambulance service fees — not doctor and hospital bills or any other medical expense.

Do I Have To Have Health Insurance?

No. If you have no insurance, FireMed covers your whole bill.
